Infant Personality Predicts Temperament More Than 20 Years Later

Before I became a parent myself, I believed that it would be my job to mold my children into the adults they would become, and while this is true in so many ways, after becoming a mom to my three hugely unique daughters, and watching so many babies grow into school aged children in my practice, I have come to appreciate how much we are all who we are, right from the start. Don’t worry, we still have a very important task as parents - to care for our kids, teach them how many different ways we can savor life, and to teach them how to keep themselves safe in this crazy and rapidly changing world… but how they engage, interact, and what excites them, will be very similar in the eyes of that 6 month old, as it is in the eyes of that 16yo. And now, researchers from the National Institute of Health (NIH) have evidence proving what I have observed in my personal and professional experiences to be true. This is just one of the reasons why being a pediatrician is such a joy, because I get to witness each parent come to terms with this truth in their own time (and help them get there if they need help with it), and because I get to meet little humans who are unapologetically themselves before they can walk and talk become themselves over the years that I get to care for them… Click here for the full summary article and enjoy!
