When Will This Be Over? Sesame Workshop's Tips for Parenting During a Pandemic

This NPR article is a window into great resources available from the Sesame Street Curriculum Team led by the Developmental Psychologist, Rosemarie Truglio. While this article is full of pearls of knowledge, my favorite section is the one on “schoolwork isn’t the only way to learn at home”. It’s sometimes difficult with the busy flow of our days pre-COVID-19, to remember that teachable moments exist in daily life, not just in school and structured activities. This quarantine, has forced me to really think about what I want my girls to learn from me and what I have to teach them that they can’t learn from books, like about our heritage and traditions around cooking and holidays and celebrations, about street smarts, and how using “common sense” is always a good go to in new situations, and about how kindness lifts us all up. I am trying to retrain my brain to think outside of the box… and enjoying where it is taking me.
